President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the appointment of Brigadier General Kunle Nafiu as the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), effective immediately. The new DG replaces Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, who previously held the position.
Brig. Gen. Nafiu brings a wealth of military experience to the role. Prior to his appointment, he served as Chief of Staff to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede, a role he also held under the late COAS, Lt. General Raheem Abiodun Lagbaja. His career includes significant academic and leadership credentials, having graduated from the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Nigeria, and the US Army War College.
A member of the Nigerian Army’s 47 Regular Course and an Artillery Officer, Nafiu previously served as a Directing Staff at the Army War College, Nigeria, before his promotion to Chief of Staff. He hails from Ileogbo in Aiyedire Local Government Area of Osun State.
The NYSC, established in 1973, plays a pivotal role in national unity and youth development. President Tinubu’s appointment underscores the administration’s focus on leveraging seasoned military leaders to steer critical national institutions.
