Ahmed Musa Makes Comeback as Nigeria Announces Squad for World Cup Qualifiers

Ahmed Musa, the captain of the Super Eagles, has been recalled to the Nigerian national team for the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe. This marks his return to the squad after a prolonged absence.

The Nigeria Football Federation unveiled the provisional squad on Tuesday, with Musa leading the list under the guidance of newly appointed head coach, Eric Chelle. Musa last played for the Super Eagles during their run to the silver medal at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations.

The squad also features in-form KRC Genk striker Tolu Arokodare, who has been in sensational form in the Belgian Jupiler League, scoring 15 goals this season. Arokodare is among four new faces in Chelle’s lineup, which includes Anthony Dennis (FC Göztepe), Papa Daniel Mustapha (formerly of Niger Tornadoes), and Igoh Ogbu of Slavia Prague.

Other notable inclusions are the return of Remo Stars goalkeeper Kayode Bankole and Southampton forward Paul Onuachu, as Nigeria aims to reignite its World Cup qualification campaign. The Super Eagles currently sit fifth in Group C and will face Rwanda in Kigali on March 21, followed by a home game against Zimbabwe in Uyo on March 25.
