The price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in Kano has surged to N1,200 per litre at various filling stations, while Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) outlets have adjusted their pump price to N902 per litre.
Daily Trust reports that NNPC stations are currently experiencing long queues as the price of petrol skyrockets.
An NNPCL official at one of the stations, who preferred to remain anonymous, mentioned that they were awaiting directives to commence sales at the new price.
“We arrived this morning (Tuesday) and turned on our machines only to see the new price adjustment. You can see it for yourself. We are now waiting for directives to start selling,” he said.
Motorists in line expressed their concerns over the price hike.
Isah Muhammad said, “Where are we heading in this country? How do we survive now? It’s very unfortunate we are witnessing this.”
Another motorist, Ibrahim Saleh, recalled, “I remember when I used to sell petrol on the black market. It was N95 per litre back then. One day during the late President Shehu Musa Yar’adua’s regime, we went to buy fuel and they halted the process.
“We all thought the price would increase, but they adjusted it to N65 per litre. It was something I will never forget. When prices go up in Nigeria, they never come down, and it has been like that ever since.”
