Super Eagles’ Troost-Ekong Poised for Saudi Pro League Transfer |
Nigeria’s national soccer team captain, William Troost-Ekong, is set to transfer from Greek side PAOK to Al Kholood in the Saudi Pro League.
The clubs have reached an agreement in principle for a deal valued at approximately €1.2 million ($1.3 million) for the defender, pending final approval from the Saudi club and league.
Troost-Ekong, 30, has agreed to a two-year contract with an option for an additional 12 months and is en route to Saudi Arabia to finalize the transfer. Portuguese manager Paulo Duarte, who has extensive experience in African football, having managed Burkina Faso and most recently Togo, will be overseeing the team.
Troost-Ekong has been playing in Greece since his departure from Watford last summer.
The centre-back was honored as the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) player of the tournament earlier this year, as Nigeria finished as runners-up.
Al Kholood earned promotion to the Saudi Pro League last season after securing third place in the country’s second tier.
