SEMA: Flood Claims Three Lives, Destroys Homes in Bauchi Communities |
Mas’ud Aliyu, the Director General (DG) of the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has reported that a devastating flood has claimed the lives of three individuals in various communities across three local government areas (LGAs).
During an assessment visit to the affected areas in Shira LGA on Tuesday, Aliyu noted that numerous residents have been left homeless due to the flooding.
He mentioned that the state government has distributed relief materials to help ease the suffering caused by the disaster.
"In Shira local government area, three people have lost their lives," stated the SEMA DG.
"The LGAs of Shira, Katagum, and Giade are not the only ones affected. Several other local government areas have also been impacted."
Additionally, Ibrahim Kashim, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), led a delegation to the affected communities on Tuesday.
Upon receiving the government delegation, Musa Azare, the Caretaker Chairman of Katagum LGA, mentioned that many residents have been forced to seek refuge in temporary shelters due to the flooding.
"The flood has completely washed away entire villages, compelling us to seek temporary resettlement centers," Azare said.
Recently, the flood also severed the Kano-Maiduguri expressway in Bauchi state, as well as the Azare-Isawa road.
