| Nigerian defence chief meets Nigerien counterpart in Niamey, seeks return of Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso into ECOWAS |
The Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, is currently in Niger Republic for a meeting with his Nigerien counterpart, Gen. Mousa Barmo.
This was disclosed by the Acting Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja.

It is worth recalling that Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso announced their withdrawal from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) following their expulsion due to the disruption of democratic governance in their countries.
As Chairman of the ECOWAS Committee of Defence Chiefs, Gen. Musa had recently called for the return of these three countries to the regional bloc during a meeting in Abuja.
Gen. Musa emphasized that the return of Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso to ECOWAS is crucial for combating the insecurity plaguing the region, particularly insurgency.
He noted that efforts are ongoing to reintegrate these countries, stressing that collective action is essential to address insecurity in West Africa.
Today's visit to Niamey is likely connected to the push for the return of these nations to ECOWAS.
