Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called for justice following the death of his associate, Alhaji Magaji Lawali.

According to Daily Trust, Zamfara State Police Commissioner Muhammad Shehu Dalijan confirmed the arrest of Colonel Rabi’u Garba Yandoto (rtd), the pioneer commander of the state-owned security outfit, Community Protection Guards (CPG), in connection with Lawali's alleged murder.

The late Lawali, a prominent politician in the state, and his neighbor Malam Yahaya Galadima, were detained by CPG personnel on February 10 this year at Tashar-Dangoje village while attending a wedding ceremony.

They were taken to the CPG outpost in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State for questioning on allegations of aiding banditry in the area. The following day, Lawali's family was informed that he had died in detention.

Commissioner Dalijan confirmed to Daily Trust that evidence in police possession revealed that the ex-CPG commander personally murdered the politician on February 10, 2024, while in detention at the security outfit’s facility in Tsafe.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, Senator Marafa commended the Zamfara State Police Commissioner and the Command for their thorough investigation of the matter.

He stated that the investigation's outcome confirmed his previous assertion that the ex-CPG commander, a dismissed and disgraced army officer, was on a vendetta mission when he killed his associate.

Senator Marafa, who represented Zamfara Central from 2011 to 2019, urged the police commissioner and other security agencies to expedite the investigation of similar cases in the state, including the brutal murder of a renowned cleric, Imam Abubakar Hassan Mada. He emphasized that swift action would help restore the people's confidence in security and government.

“I commend the Police Commissioner for the thorough investigation that has confirmed what the community said about the killing of my associates. As I previously stated, the dismissed Army officer took the appointment as CPG commander to kill my associates.

“Yandoto ordered his partners in crime to arrest my associate the very day the Zamfara State Government announced his appointment, and he personally killed Magaji Lawali, as confirmed by the police commissioner, on the same day.

“There should be no further delay in prosecuting the killer of my associate. He should be charged in court and prosecuted in line with the gravity of his offence. His crime is more severe than that of bandits because he used the guise of safeguarding our people to kill my associate,” he said.
