Governor Fintiri Approves ₦70,000 Minimum Wage

Governor Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has sanctioned the payment of a ₦70,000 national minimum wage for state and local government employees.
This announcement was made by Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), during an interview with journalists following a private meeting with the governor on Tuesday.
According to Comrade Fashe, state government workers will begin receiving their new salaries starting in August 2024, while local government employees will see the increase from September.
He further explained that the adjustment will follow the consequential adjustment table used in 2019, pending the release of a new table from the National Salaries, Wages, and Income Commission.
“Whatever amount workers were receiving under the current national minimum wage of ₦32,000 in Adamawa State will be adjusted proportionally to reflect the new minimum wage,” he stated.
Comrade Fashe also highlighted Governor Fintiri's dedication to workers' welfare, noting that the new minimum wage is being implemented even before the release of the updated table from the national commission.
