The Gombe State government has announced its decision to implement the new national minimum wage of ₦70,000 for its workers, as revealed by Deputy Governor Manassah Jatau.
Jatau, who chairs the state’s Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage negotiation, informed reporters in Gombe on Sunday that the committee is finalizing the details.
Represented by the State Head of Civil Service, Ahmed Abdullahi, Jatau emphasized the governor’s strong commitment to ensuring that civil servants in the state benefit from the new national minimum wage.
“Governor Inuwa Yahaya is fully committed to paying the minimum wage. He firmly believes that the new minimum wage is essential,” Jatau stated.
He also mentioned that civil servants would continue to receive the ₦10,000 wage award, which has been in place since September 2023, until the new minimum wage is implemented.
“Once an agreement is reached on the new minimum wage, its implementation will commence, and the ₦10,000 palliative will cease,” he added.
Yusuf Aish, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Gombe State, noted that all parties are awaiting the Federal Government’s approved table for the new pay.
“Full negotiations will begin once the new minimum wage table is released,” he said.
The NLC chairman urged civil servants to remain patient while the negotiations are being finalized.
