The Emir of Ningi in Bauchi State, Alhaji Yunusa Muhammadu Danyaya, has passed away at the age of 88.
Emir Danyaya died on Sunday morning at the Expert Alliance Hospital in Kano, just two days after returning from a medical trip to Saudi Arabia. He had ruled for 46 years.
Usman Sule, the Secretary of the Ningi Emirate Council, announced that the funeral prayer for the late emir will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Emir’s Palace in Ningi.
Born in 1936, Emir Danyaya had a notable career before becoming emir in 1978. He attended Ningi Elementary School from 1941 to 1946, then Bauchi Middle School from 1946 to 1951, and later the School of Hygiene in Kano. He also earned a diploma in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
During the Native Authority (NA) period, he had a distinguished career, starting as a dispenser at Nasaru Dispensary in Ningi. He served on the Ningi Emirate Council from 1956 to 1960, was a counsellor for the Medical and Health Department from 1958 to 1959, and a member of the Ningi NA Outer Council from 1954 to 1956.
Ningi is one of the six emirates in Bauchi State, alongside Bauchi, Katagum, Misau, Jama’are, and Dass.
