| Egbema Youths Urge Tinubu to Reduce Fuel Price to N200 |
The Egbema Youth Political Forum (EYPF) has called on President Bola Tinubu to heed the demands of protesting Nigerians by reducing the price of fuel to N200.
The group also praised the protesters for their resilience and for exercising their constitutionally guaranteed rights, as outlined in Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), in response to the severe hardships faced by the masses.
In a statement released yesterday in Warri, Delta State, EYPF representatives Ebigbagha Baidi (Chairman), Karina Yoroki (Secretary), Ebiterigha Ejemi (Spokesman), and Odimiyentimi Eyenmi (Legal Adviser) said: “We join other aggrieved Nigerians in appealing to the Federal Government to review and reduce the price of premium motor spirit (PMS), commonly known as fuel, to N200. This reduction will help lower the prices of other commodities in the market, making them more affordable for Nigerians. Additionally, we urge a review of economic policies contributing to the current hardships across the country.”
The group further appealed to President Tinubu to address the legitimate demands of the masses comprehensively to alleviate the widespread suffering. “It is well-known that there is hunger in the land due to the exorbitant prices of commodities and the skyrocketing price of fuel,” they added.
The EYPF criticized President Tinubu’s speech on August 4, 2024, stating that it failed to address the core demands of the protesters and instead seemed to threaten Nigerians to adapt to the current situation.
The Ijaw youths also urged President Tinubu to instruct security personnel to act professionally when dealing with peaceful protesters and to avoid human rights abuses. They emphasized that the primary duty of the President and security agents is to protect lives and property, not to destroy them.
