Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that Euro 2024 will be his final European Championship.
Ronaldo made this revelation after Portugal needed penalties to overcome Slovenia in their round of 16 match on Monday night.
The 39-year-old had an opportunity to score in extra time but saw his penalty saved by Jan Oblak.
Despite this, Ronaldo successfully converted his penalty during the shoot-out, while Diogo Costa made three consecutive saves to secure Portugal's victory.
“This will be my last Euro, of course,” Ronaldo told reporters.
“But I’m not driven by this. I’m driven by enthusiasm.
“I felt for the fans. I’ll always give my best for this shirt, whether I miss or not. And I’ll continue to do this my whole life. You have to take responsibility.”
