On Friday, suspected armed robbers attacked and shot a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer in Lokoja.

SP William Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Kogi, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

“At approximately 1:30 p.m., officers responded to a distress call at Lokongoma, Phase 1 in Lokoja, where they found Abu, an FRSC officer, in a pool of blood, having been shot in both legs and the shoulder.

“He was returning from the bank when an ash-colored Toyota Camry intercepted and blocked him in front of Lokongoma Market, Phase 1, and robbed him of an unspecified amount of money.

“A sum of N139,000 was recovered at the scene, and the victim was rushed to the hospital for medical attention,” Aya reported.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bertrand Onuoha, has deployed officers to track down the suspects and bring them to justice.

An eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that the FRSC officer was heading towards his home in Zango-Daji, Lokoja, on a motorcycle when the incident occurred.

The eyewitness added that the gunmen fired multiple shots at the victim, who was attempting to hold onto a bag, before robbing him of his money.
