| Some Staff Acting as Informants for Bandits – Katsina University VC Alleges |
The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA) in Katsina State, Prof. Armaya’u Bichi, has raised concerns that some staff members are allegedly serving as informants for bandits.
Speaking to newsmen in Katsina on Tuesday, Bichi emphasized that the contacts of the suspected staff members have been handed over to a security agency for further investigation.
It is worth noting that suspected bandits have been attacking the area, kidnapping students, staff members, and their families.
Following a recent attack that resulted in the death of a colleague, university staff staged a peaceful protest over the insecurity.
The Vice-Chancellor assured that the school management is doing everything possible to prevent such incidents, but the situation continues to worsen.
Bichi stated, “The issue of informants is worrisome. We have investigated those we suspect of providing information about their colleagues and students.
“We have identified them and handed over their contacts to a security agency for further investigation.
“However, we have not received any updates from the security agencies.
“These suspects are our staff. We have strong reasons to believe they are acting as informants for bandits,” the Vice-Chancellor revealed.
Reacting to the situation, the state police command stated that they were not aware of such an issue but promised to investigate further.
The command’s spokesman, ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, called on the public to assist with information that could help address the security challenges.
