Shettima Donates to Bomb Blast Victims in Maiduguri |
Vice President Kashim Shettima visited the victims and families affected by the suicide bombings in Gwoza, Borno State, on Saturday to offer his condolences.
The tragic incident occurred when a female suicide bomber detonated explosives at a wedding ceremony, resulting in over 30 deaths and numerous injuries.
During his visit, Shettima described the incident as heartbreaking. Speaking to journalists after meeting with the victims at the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri, he conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's condolences to the Borno State government and the people of Gwoza.
The Vice President also made a personal donation to the victims and expressed his sympathy to the families of those killed in the explosions, emphasizing that President Tinubu's thoughts are with them.
“The heart of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is with the victims, and he specifically instructed us to come and offer our condolences and commiserations to the victims of this incident.
“We are here with the Director General of NEMA, the Minister of Agriculture, the Minister of Transportation, and the Chief Whip of the Senate, a native of Gwoza, who has been here since yesterday (Sunday), along with the Acting Governor. They have been working tirelessly to provide support to the victims,” Shettima stated.
He added, “It was a very tragic scene. Our hearts go out to the victims. So far, we have recorded 32 deaths; 42 of those injured were brought in from Gwoza, with about 14 discharged and 26 still receiving treatment.”
