President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his condolences to the family of the late Onyeka Onwenu, the iconic singer, songwriter, actor, journalist, activist, and politician.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu mourned “the passing of the Queen of Songs, whose uplifting and melodious rendition of ‘One Love’ in the 1990s inspired a spirit of unity and harmony.”
The President also reminisced about Onwenu's numerous artistic contributions to public welfare, highlighting her memorable collaboration with King Sunny Ade on ‘Wait for Me’, a melodic campaign promoting family planning in the 1980s.
The statement read, “President Tinubu celebrates the life of the versatile and immensely talented artist who dedicated herself to a wide range of artistic endeavors, bringing joy and laughter to many.
“The President extends his condolences to the entertainment industry, the Imo State Government, and the countless fans of the late star over this profound loss.
“President Tinubu prays for the repose of the soul of the deceased artist, hoping she finds a place where the music never fades and where there is ‘Dancing in the Sun’.
“The President affirms that Ms. Onwenu’s legacy lives on through her timeless masterpieces.”
