Senate Receives Bill for Creation of 'Tiga State' from Kano

Kano South Senator, Kawu Suleiman Abdurrahman, has introduced a bill proposing the creation of 'Tiga State', to be formed from Kano State.

The bill was presented on the Senate floor on Wednesday.

Titled “Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Alteration) Creation of Tiga State Bill, 2024 (SB.523)”, the bill had its First Reading on July 10, 2024.

Recently, the Senate also received a bill from Delta North Senator, Ned Nwoko, advocating for the creation of Anioma State in the South-East, to ensure the zone has six states like other geo-political zones.

Additionally, there are bills for the creation of Orlu State, sponsored by Senator Osita Izunaso and House of Representatives member Ikenga Ugochineyere, and Etiti State, sponsored by Amobi Godwin Ogah, representing Isikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State, along with four other representatives from the affected communities.

Some lawmakers are also pushing for the creation of more states from Lagos and other regions across the country.
