Sanwo-Olu Advises Retirees: Keep Your Pension for Family Needs, Not Donations

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has advised retirees to refrain from donating their pension funds to churches and mosques for thanksgiving or tithes.

Sanwo-Olu emphasized that retirees should prioritize using their pension to address their family's needs.

He shared this advice during the 105th batch of retirement bond certificate presentations to state retirees yesterday.

The governor highlighted that the pension payments reflect the Lagos State government's steadfast commitment to its retirees.

Sanwo-Olu stated: “This money is not meant to solve all family problems. It represents what you have earned and worked for.

“When asked to pledge large sums for building projects in churches or mosques, such as N3 million, refrain from doing so. Trust that God will guide you, and remember that Sanwo-Olu has fulfilled his part.

“Today, we celebrate the 105th Retirement Bond Certificate presentation, marking a significant milestone as we move into a new era of Pension Administration called ‘Pay-As-You-Go’.

“From now on, all state government retirees will receive their payments upon retirement, provided all procedures and approvals are completed beforehand.”
