Real Reason Gov Yusuf Reinstated Sanusi as Emir of Kano – Kwankwaso

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has shed light on why Muhammad Sanusi was reinstated as the Emir of Kano.

According to Kwankwaso, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State reinstated Sanusi to fulfill his campaign promises to the people.

The former governor of Kano State expressed no regrets about the decision to reinstate Sanusi.

Governor Yusuf reinstated Sanusi as Emir of Kano after dethroning Aminu Ado Bayero. This action followed the repeal of the 2019 Kano Emirate Law by the state House of Assembly.

Speaking on Arise News Prime Time, Kwankwaso said: “It was a campaign issue. Don’t forget that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was installed in 2014 by our government.

“My Deputy, who became governor, decided to divide Kano into five emirates. What many people don’t remember is that it was tried by the Rimi government during the Second Republic.

“Our belief was that Kano should remain one solid traditional institution. That was our stance.

“During our campaign, the governor promised the people that if they voted for him, Kano would return to being one solid traditional institution, with support from the other emirates.

“That is why, after being sworn in, he started a process of consultation.

“For a year, the governor conducted thorough consultations and decided to follow due process through the State House of Assembly, leading to Sanusi’s reinstatement. People voted for him for various reasons, including the desire to make Kano one strong emirate.”
