Music star Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has stated that he will not be participating in the upcoming nationwide protest against the current economic difficulties in the country.
According to Daily Trust, some youths are organizing a nationwide protest from August 1 to 15 to address the rising cost of living and economic challenges.
In a viral video, Portable, who was involved in the EndSARS protests in 2020, mentioned that he is now doing well and prefers to focus on achieving more success.
The singer pointed out that billionaires like Femi Otedola and Aliko Dangote do not join protests.
He encouraged his fans to focus on their personal goals.
Speaking in a mix of Pidgin and Yoruba, he said: “My fans, some people said I protested in 2020. Yes, that’s true, but I was poor then. Now, I’m rich. Have you ever seen Femi Otedola, Aliko Dangote, or Dele Momodu protesting?
“Back then, I was thinking like a poor man with nothing. Now, I’m wealthy. Rich people don’t fight.
“It won’t end well for anyone who suggests I should go and sing at a protest. Why don’t you take the microphone and sing at the protest yourself? If you’re hustling and have work to do, you won’t join them to protest.
“Fight for yourself, not for Nigeria. Nigeria is fine. It’s you who isn’t okay yet. The money is there; you’re the one not working or staying loyal to your helper. People who can help you are available; you’re the one not networking. Fight for yourself so your career doesn’t become a barrier.”
