Police Prohibit Unlawful Gatherings in Kaduna |
The Kaduna State Police Command has announced a ban on all forms of unlawful gatherings by the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), including their planned Ashura procession.
ASP Mansir Hassan, the command’s spokesperson, issued a statement on Sunday in Kaduna, declaring the ban.
Hassan stated, “The command has prohibited all forms of illegal protests in the state.
“This decision follows intelligence reports indicating that the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, also known as Shi’ite, is planning a procession to mark the 2024 Islamic Ashura day ceremony.
“It is an undeniable fact that this ritual practice has, in the past, been marked by significant violence, leading to property destruction, injuries, and even loss of lives.
“In light of this, the Police command is warning the proscribed sect members to abandon any plans for such a procession.”
Hassan emphasized that the command would enforce the law against any individual or group, particularly the outlawed IMN members, who attempt to defy the ban.
Commissioner of Police Kaduna State Command, Mr. Ali Dabigi, has urged all law-abiding citizens to continue their activities without fear.
He also stressed that the hard-earned peace in the state will not be compromised by the actions of a few ‘renegades.’
