The Yobe State Police Command has announced the arrest of a notorious kidnapping kingpin who was on their wanted list.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, detailed the arrest.

According to the statement, on July 5, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., detectives from the State Intelligence Department (SID) apprehended Usmanu Garba, 30, from Katarko Village in Gujba local government area. Garba was intercepted while en route to spend his share of the proceeds from a recent kidnapping operation.

The statement revealed that Garba is part of a gang involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, and cattle rustling in Gujba and surrounding areas.

“The gang was behind the recent kidnapping incident in Babaram Muktum, a Fulani settlement in Gujba LGA, where they abducted a resident and extorted a ransom of N1.6 million.

“They also stole the victim’s father’s mobile phone before releasing the victim. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate who are currently at large,” the statement added.
