| Northern Students Withdraw from Planned Nationwide Protests |
A group of students from the Coalition of Concerned Northern Youth and Students has decided to withdraw from a planned nationwide protest against hunger and economic hardship in Nigeria. The announcement was made by Comrade Jibrin Sani Bello, Senate President of the National Association of Kano State Students (NAKS), during a press briefing in Kano.
Bello cited concerns over the unknown identity of the protest organizers as the reason for their withdrawal. He emphasized that protests often disrupt academic activities, which could negatively impact students' education. While acknowledging the economic challenges in Nigeria, the students cautioned against participating in poorly organized protests that could worsen the situation.
Instead of protesting, the students advocated for the expansion of the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to provide scholarships for eligible students. Abdulrahman Mansir, a student at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University in Katsina, highlighted that previous protests had extended academic sessions and disrupted student schedules.
The students urged for responsible organization and divine intervention to address Nigeria's broader challenges.
