NNPC Provides Update as Fuel Scarcity Intensifies in Lagos |
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has issued an update on the fuel supply situation in Lagos and Abuja, attributing the scarcity to the inability of some vessels to discharge their cargo.
This clarification comes amid increasing fuel shortages in various parts of the country, particularly in Lagos, where long queues have reappeared at major filling stations, causing significant traffic congestion.
Our correspondent observed on Saturday that there were extensive queues at NNPC stations along Ogunnusi Road, despite the stations not yet dispensing fuel.
Similar severe shortages were noted along Oba Agunji Road near Agege and at a Mobil station in Ijaiye.
Additionally, a queue stretching about a kilometer was seen at the NNPC station in Alapere, among other locations.
A few independent filling stations that were dispensing fuel were selling it at ₦800 per litre.
Commenting on the situation, Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., stated, “The NNPC Ltd. wishes to inform the public that the tightness in fuel supply and distribution observed in some parts of Lagos and the FCT is due to a hitch in the discharge operations of a few vessels.
“The Company further assures that it is working tirelessly with all stakeholders to resolve the issue and restore normalcy in operations.”
