Nigeria's Electricity Generation of 4.5GW is Embarrassing – Tinubu |
President Bola Tinubu has expressed his disappointment over Nigeria's electricity generation capacity, which stands at 4.5GW, considering the country's size and potential.
Speaking during the inauguration of a 31-member Presidential Economic Coordination Council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu highlighted the urgent need for innovative solutions to address Nigeria's economic challenges.
Tinubu stated: "We face significant energy security issues in Nigeria. It's crucial that we work together to enhance our oil and gas sector and increase electricity generation and distribution across the nation.
"We are committed to achieving this with your cooperation, collaboration, and recommendations. It is truly embarrassing that as a nation, we are still generating only 4.5GW of electricity.
"We must also boost our oil production to 2 million barrels per day within the next few months. We are determined to eliminate all barriers to investment in the energy sector and improve competitiveness."
