Wali Haruna, a resident of Suleja in Niger State, has been arrested by the police for a Facebook post encouraging participation in the planned nationwide protest.

Haruna was reportedly apprehended at his home in the Kabula area of Suleja on Friday and subsequently transferred to the CID in Minna.

A relative, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that Haruna's Facebook post, which read: “Protest is possible in Nigeria. We support the motion. Let’s go ahead,” along with other posts in Hausa, led to his arrest.

The command's spokesman, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the arrest, stating, “Wali Haruna of Suleja was invited on July 26 for questioning after sharing protest materials on social media.

“He is being interrogated on suspicion of inciting the public to protest and to determine if he is affiliated with any groups planning the protest, as well as to understand the nature of the planned protest for proactive measures.”
