| My Investment in Health and Education for the Good of Society – Peter Obi |
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has emphasized his unwavering commitment to building a better nation through investments in critical areas of human and national development: health and education. He believes these investments are ultimately for the benefit of the nation and the future of society.
Obi made these remarks on Monday during a visit to Grimard College of Nursing Sciences in Anyigba, Kogi State, where he donated N10 million to support the training of nurses. He highlighted the crucial role nurses play in primary healthcare delivery in the nation.
He pointed out that Nigeria remains underdeveloped because the nation has not aggressively invested in key areas such as health, education, and poverty alleviation.
He noted that the country is currently facing serious challenges of insecurity and other socio-economic issues due to a lack of investment in these critical areas.
“I have consistently urged governments at all levels to invest more in health and education, and I have also called on donor agencies to do the same. Our investment in the future of our children is for the good of society and the progress of our nation,” Obi said.
Addressing the nursing students, Obi reminded them of the noble profession they are in, which is dedicated to caring for humanity.
“I am particularly concerned about the training of more nurses who play vital roles in caring for the health of society. As experts continue to warn of a severe shortage of nurses, we must remain proactive by investing in their training. This way, we can meet the needs of our domestic health sector and also contribute to the global community,” he added.
Obi expressed his gratitude to the Proprietor of the College, Bishop Anthony Ademu Adaji, as well as the Management and Staff of the College for their dedication to training compassionate and competent healthcare professionals.
“Our commitment remains to build a New Nigeria that offers its citizens access to quality healthcare and educational opportunities. It is POssible,” Obi concluded.
