| Jigawa Approves N3.5 Billion Grants for 30,000 Rural Farmers |
The Jigawa State executive council has approved the release of N3.5 billion in non-refundable grants to support 30,000 farmers and boost agricultural production.
Hon. Sagir Musa, the state commissioner for information, youth, sports, and culture, announced this during a press briefing on the meeting's outcome yesterday.
He explained that the grant, which includes cash, farm inputs, and implements, will be distributed to selected rural Fadama farmers to enhance their production capacity.
According to Musa, the program is supported by the World Bank under the COVID-19 Economic Recovery and Stimulation Design to mitigate the pandemic's effects.
Hon. Sagir added that the 30,000 beneficiaries were carefully selected by the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources under the FADAMA phases IV and V to boost food security and improve the livelihoods of rural communities.
“This initiative aims not only to address the immediate impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic but also to contribute to long-term agricultural sustainability and economic growth in the state,” Musa said.
The commissioner reiterated Governor Umar Namadi's commitment to empowering the people of Jigawa through their own businesses for development.
