Islamic Calendar: Kebbi Declares Monday Public Holiday |
Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has announced that Monday will be a public holiday to celebrate the start of the new Islamic calendar, 1st Muharram 1446AH.
Alhaji Auwal Manu-Dogondaji, the state Commissioner for Establishment, made this announcement in a statement released in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.
He explained that although the 1st of Muharram falls on a Sunday, the government decided to move the public holiday to Monday due to the significance of the Islamic New Year.
Manu-Dogondaji extended his congratulations to the Muslim community on the arrival of the new Islamic calendar, encouraging them to continue their fervent prayers for the peace, security, and prosperity of Kebbi State and the nation as a whole.
“I convey the governor's congratulations to the entire Muslim Ummah worldwide,” the commissioner added. (NAN)
