Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has criticized the nationwide mobilization for protests, calling it unnecessary, ill-timed, and in poor taste.
He emphasized that in Kaduna State, efforts are focused on rebuilding trust and ensuring safety and security.
Governor Sani stated that he has instructed the Overseer of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, to collaborate closely with the heads of security agencies for continuous review of the security situation and to report back for prompt action.
Addressing stakeholders at a town hall meeting on the state of the nation, Governor Sani acknowledged that the implementation of some federal government policies has been challenging.
However, he described the hardships as temporary and argued that protests are not the solution.
He mentioned that President Bola Tinubu is working tirelessly to address the economic issues inherited from previous administrations.
“The Federal and State Governments have been relentless in tackling the nation’s developmental and security challenges. Therefore, the nationwide mobilization for protests is unnecessary, ill-timed, and in poor taste.
“As calls for protests grow, inspired by events in several African nations, we must consider our unique context and avoid self-inflicted harm. In Kaduna, we have the experience and evidence to guide us. We know the tensions, the history, and the outcomes of notable ‘protests’ over the past 25 years. Practically every significant upheaval in this state began as a ‘protest.'”
Governor Sani also mentioned that in recent weeks, some anonymous groups have been planning nationwide protests under the guise of demanding good governance, raising concerns about their strategies and intentions.
He stressed that genuine struggles or agitations should not resemble cult-like operations, indicating that there is something suspicious about these plans.
