FG Enhances Border Security Ahead of Nationwide Protests |
The Federal Government has ramped up security measures across all national borders in anticipation of the planned nationwide protests set for August 1.
Kemi Nandap, Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), announced this in a statement released by the Service Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, on Saturday in Abuja.
Nandap instructed all Zonal Heads, State Command Comptrollers, and Divisional Immigration Officers (DIOs) to be extra vigilant.
She emphasized that officers and personnel should increase surveillance in light of the planned protests by various groups.
Nandap also highlighted that the directive aims to prevent foreign elements from entering the country to participate in the protests.
“In line with the responsibility of safeguarding the nation’s gateways entrusted to the Service, officers, especially Heads of Border Commands, are urged to rise to the occasion.
“This is to ensure that no foreign element can exploit the protests to destabilize the country,” she stated.
The NIS CG has temporarily suspended all leave applications and urged officers to demonstrate utmost professionalism and patriotism in their duties.
She added that this vigilance should continue during and after the protests, stating, “Nigeria is the only country we have as our own.”
Nandap assured all Nigerians of the Service’s readiness to secure the nation’s borders and enhance national security.
