Euro 2024: Ronaldo Lacks Energy – Sam Allardyce

Former England manager Sam Allardyce has suggested that Portugal coach Roberto Martinez should bench Cristiano Ronaldo for their Euro 2024 quarterfinal match against France.

Allardyce believes the 39-year-old Ronaldo has become a liability for Portugal in the tournament.

Ronaldo has struggled to make an impact in Germany and is looking to redeem his image.

Speaking on the William Hill and Footy Accumulator podcast, No Tippy Tappy Football, Allardyce said: “Given the talent in Portugal's squad, I think they’ve been quite disappointing. They have so much talent and ability on the ball, but they’re having to carry Ronaldo now.

“Even though he is still very fit for his age, he simply doesn’t have the same energy levels anymore. The other players have to carry him, and they’re good enough to do it, but he still hasn’t scored yet. Roberto Martínez won’t be brave enough to drop Ronaldo.”
