Germany's head coach, Julian Nagelsmann, has expressed his confidence that his team will strive to win the 2026 World Cup.

Nagelsmann admitted that it is particularly painful to have to wait another two years for a chance at becoming world champions.

He made these remarks following Germany’s elimination from Euro 2024 at the hands of Spain.

Germany exited the competition after a 2-1 defeat to Spain in the quarter-finals at the MHPArena in Stuttgart on Friday.

Spain took the lead in the 51st minute through Dani Olmo, and Florian Wirtz equalized for Germany in the 89th minute, sending the match into extra time.

Mikel Merino scored the decisive goal in the 119th minute.

In the post-match press conference, Nagelsmann said, “It also hurts that we now have to wait two years to become world champions.

“What can I say? That we want to be eliminated in the group stage? Of course, we want to become world champions.”

The young manager took over as Germany’s head coach in 2023 and has a contract that runs until 2026.
