France head coach, Didier Deschamps, acknowledged that his team “didn’t play as well as we could” following their elimination from Euro 2024.
Deschamps also noted that Kylian Mbappe “didn’t perform as well as he usually does.”
Les Bleus were knocked out of the tournament after a 2-1 defeat to Spain in Tuesday’s semi-final.
Despite entering the tournament as favourites, France managed to score only one goal from open play.
Mbappe, in particular, found it difficult to make an impact, with the Real Madrid forward appearing to be hindered by a broken nose sustained in the match against Austria.
“I won’t say my players didn’t give their all, but we didn’t play as well as we could for various reasons,” Deschamps told reporters.
“Kylian didn’t perform as well as he usually does. I’m not making excuses. We tried to do our best with what we had and aimed to be as efficient as possible.”
