Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has criticized England’s top players for not performing at Euro 2024.
Carragher shared his thoughts on X following the Three Lions' 2-1 defeat to Spain in Sunday’s final.
Mikel Oyarzabal came off the bench to score the decisive goal for La Roja, after Cole Palmer had equalized Nico Williams’ second-half strike.
In the aftermath of the game, there were calls for Gareth Southgate to resign as England manager.
However, Carragher argued that the blame should not always fall on the manager.
He stated: “Sven played 4-4-2, Fabio was too strict, Gareth is too defensive! Funny how it’s always the manager’s fault, isn’t it?!!
“The reality is our key players didn’t show up in this tournament. And it’s been the same story in other tournaments over the years.”
