The Ebonyi State Government has allocated N2 billion to fund scholarships for 597 beneficiaries to study at Nigerian universities.

This funding will cover school fees, research expenses, and living costs for the recipients.

Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, disclosed this during a press briefing on the outcomes of the State Executive Council meeting.

He emphasized that research funds would be directly paid to the universities along with the school fees to prevent mismanagement by the beneficiaries.

The commissioner also mentioned that civil servants who meet the eligibility criteria for the scholarship program will be granted study leave with pay, along with other benefits.

To ensure the smooth commencement of academic activities at the University of ICT in Oferekpe, Agbaja, and the Aeronautic Engineering University in Ezza, the Executive Council approved the construction of eight faculty and hostel buildings for the two new universities.

Okpor also announced that the Council approved the purchase of two firefighting trucks to address fire disasters, following recent fire outbreaks in some parts of the state.
