Davido: Afrobeats Artists Now on Par with Drake |
Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has highlighted the global rise of the afrobeats genre.
During a Hiptv panel discussion with the United States Advisory Council on Africa Diaspora Engagement and Leaders in Nigeria’s Creative Industries, Davido remarked that afrobeats artists are now selling tickets at the same level as pop and hip-hop stars like Drake.
He emphasized that the financial success from an afrobeats single can lead to generational wealth.
“Afrobeats artists are selling the same tickets as Drake. Now, one song as an afrobeats artist can change your generation,” he stated.
Davido also encouraged young artists to collaborate with each other rather than seeking international features, noting, “When you collaborate with your friends, they put their all.”
