Dangote Refinery: Oshiomhole Advocates Capital Punishment for Saboteurs

Adams Oshiomhole

Former Edo State Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, has called for capital punishment for those sabotaging the Dangote Refinery and exacerbating the hardships faced by Nigerians.

Speaking on Thursday in Abuja at the inaugural Prof Emeka Umerah public lecture themed ‘Nigeria Yesterday, Today, and a Prosperous Future,’ Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North, also mentioned that the Senate is looking to review the contentious aspects of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).

According to Daily Trust, Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has voiced his frustration over the challenges the Dangote Refinery, one of Africa’s largest oil plants, faces in securing local crude oil.

“With all the fanfare surrounding the Dangote Refinery, which marks a significant achievement for Nigeria, our crude oil is still being exported while Dangote is denied allocations. They prefer to export it to Europe and force Dangote to import crude from America. These saboteurs deserve to be hanged. If we don’t hang them, they will hang all of us. It will take a president with extraordinary courage to address this,” Oshiomhole stated.

Former Director-General of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr. Sam Amadi, added that no nation can prosper if its people are pessimistic and lack belief in positive outcomes.

The host, US-based Professor of Medicine Emeka Umerah, praised President Bola Tinubu for his steadfast vision despite opposition. He noted that it takes a courageous leader to implement reforms that may cause temporary pain but are necessary for long-term prosperity.

“I commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his bold leadership over the past year. Leading Nigeria involves navigating complex challenges and making decisions that may not yield immediate results or praise. As we celebrate these achievements, we must remember that our work is far from over. We must continue to support the bold, encourage the courageous, and unite in our efforts to build a nation where every citizen has a fair chance at success and where prosperity reaches every corner of our land,” Umerah said.
