The Arewa Think Tank (ATT) has praised the Federal Executive Council (FEC), led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for approving the sale of crude oil to Dangote Refinery and other refineries in naira.
In a statement on Tuesday, Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, the convener of Arewa Think Tank, and Rev. Nicholas Daniel Jatau, the co-convener of the CSOs, highlighted that the FEC's approval came just 24 hours after they called for government action on the alleged sabotage of the refinery. This, they said, demonstrates President Tinubu's responsiveness.
“We understand that President Tinubu's directive aims to stabilize the pump price of refined fuel and the dollar-naira exchange rate. Consequently, the Federal Executive Council adopted his proposal to sell crude to Dangote Refinery and other upcoming refineries in naira.
“It is a significant step that the NNPC has committed to supplying four cargoes of crude to the Dangote Refinery, which currently requires 15 cargoes annually, costing $13.5 billion.
“We also want to thank Mr. President for establishing the North-West Development Commission. This initiative is indeed beneficial for the region's development and progress,” the statement read.
The group further commended the swift signing of the new minimum wage bill of N70,000 into law.
“This is a sign of many positive changes coming to our great country, Nigeria. We need to give the president enough time and space to achieve these goals.
“We also caution the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada against issuing security alerts to their citizens in Nigeria, warning them of potential violence during the planned nationwide protests.
“We believe this instills unnecessary fear in travelers when there is calm and security for every citizen in Nigeria, despite the looming threats of nationwide protests,” the statement concluded.
