Argentina Triumph Over Colombia to Secure Record 16th Title |
Argentina successfully defended their Copa America title with a 1-0 victory over Colombia on Sunday night.
The Albiceleste clinched the win with a late extra-time goal from substitute Lautaro Martinez at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.
MartÃnez, the tournament’s top scorer, latched onto a through ball from Giovani Lo Celso and deftly chipped it over the advancing Colombian goalkeeper, Camilo Vargas, in the 112th minute.
This victory marks Argentina's record 16th Copa América title, achieved without their star player, Lionel Messi.
Messi appeared to sustain a non-contact injury in the 64th minute and was seen covering his face with his hands while sitting on the bench.
With this win, Argentina has now secured their third consecutive major title, following their triumphs in the 2021 Copa América and the 2022 World Cup.
