The management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi State has confirmed the death of Naja’atu Salisu, a 300-level Computer Science student.
She was reportedly found unconscious in a hostel bathroom.
ATBU's Director of Information and Public Relations, Zailani Bappa, confirmed the incident, stating that Naja’atu was rushed to the university’s clinic for medical attention, but medical personnel were unable to locate a vein.
Bappa explained, “Upon realizing this, Naja’atu was taken to the Trauma Centre of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, where a medical doctor certified her death. Naja’atu has been buried according to Islamic rites.”
According to Daily Trust, Naja’atu had entered the bathroom in the female hostel on the Gubi campus of the university to take a bath on Friday morning and prepare for lectures.
“She had completed her morning routine and was preparing for class before entering the bathroom. She had laid out the clothes she planned to wear on her bed,” said Naja’atu’s roommate.
In a condolence message, the ATBU Students Union Government (SUG), signed by the Secretary of the Union, Comrade Danladi Zakiru, described Naja’atu as a hardworking student who will be greatly missed by the university community.
