41-year-old Prof. Aisha Sani Maikudi has officially assumed the role of Acting Vice Chancellor at the University of Abuja (UniAbuja).

Prof. Maikudi will serve in this capacity until her appointment is ratified by the yet-to-be inaugurated Governing Council.

The handover ceremony took place on Monday at the university campus in Abuja, marking the end of Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah's five-year tenure as Vice Chancellor.

In her acceptance speech, the Acting VC expressed her gratitude to Prof. Na’Allah for his leadership and vision, which have elevated the university's global standing.

“Your tireless dedication and unwavering commitment to the university have laid a solid foundation for us to build upon, and for that, we are deeply grateful,” she said.

Prof. Maikudi outlined her administration's focus on six key areas: Academic Excellence, Research and Innovation, Student Success, Staff Welfare Opportunities, Community Engagement, and Inclusivity and Diversity.

Reflecting on his tenure, Prof. Na’Allah described the past five years as a memorable journey, highlighting the significant academic and non-academic advancements made under his leadership.

“It was five years of excitement and a great opportunity to work together and raise the banners of the great UniAbuja, which can be regarded as a University for National Unity,” he said.

“I am grateful to every student and staff member for their love and support, and I apologize to those who, in any way, might have felt offended by my actions as Vice Chancellor. My goal was always to strive for the best, no matter how difficult.

“I have no doubt that the University of Abuja will continue to achieve its destiny of greatness, and nothing and no one will take it backward.”
