25 Dead, 53 Injured in Kano Road Accident |
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kano has confirmed that 25 travelers lost their lives and 53 others were injured in a road accident.
The crash occurred early Monday near Dangwaro International Market in Kano's metropolitan area.
The travelers were in a trailer transporting cows from Maiduguri to the southern part of Nigeria when it collided with another vehicle and overturned.
FRSC Sector Commander Ibrahim Abdullahi reported that the accident involved a trailer (IVECO) with the license plate XA 311 ZB.
“We received a call at about 03:15 am on July 1, 2024. Upon receiving the information, we quickly dispatched our personnel and vehicle to the scene of the incident to rescue the victims at 03:30 am,” Abdullahi said.
He attributed the accident to excessive speed, dangerous driving, and overloading, which led to a loss of control.
During the rescue operation, items recovered included six motorcycles, 10 mobile phones, goats and rams, maize, and N400,000 in cash.
“All the victims were immediately taken to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital Kano for urgent medical attention. The doctors on duty confirmed 25 dead,” he said.
Abdullahi also warned motorists against the unsafe practice of transporting animals and goods along with human passengers.
