Kanu’s Legal Team Demands His Release, Submits 9 Judgments to AGF |
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has requested the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, to enhance its support to improve infrastructure in the state's public higher education institutions.
Lawal made the appeal in Abuja on Thursday during a visit to the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, noting that Zamfara's financial constraints and the recently declared educational emergency necessitate substantial funding assistance.
The governor also urged TETFund to help finalize some incomplete projects, particularly at the state university, to widen the scope of higher education in Zamfara.
"Recall that in November, we proclaimed an educational emergency, and that's why I'm here to seek further assistance to improve the situation in Zamfara," he said.
Addressing the state's security issues, Lawal acknowledged the challenges but reassured that measures are being taken.
Sonny Echono, TETFund's executive secretary, affirmed that despite Zamfara's security concerns, TETFund is committed to maintaining educational activities in the state.
Echono emphasized TETFund's dedication to ensuring nationwide access to quality education for all students.
"The governor visited to express gratitude for TETFund's efforts, despite Zamfara's security hurdles. He's determined to ensure the continuity of education and that students everywhere in the country receive quality education," Echono stated.
"He presented a specific plea concerning state-run institutions. Zamfara, like other states, benefits from our significant projects, and he's advocating for the completion of some ongoing projects due to their financial difficulties," he added.
Echono mentioned that the governor prefers completing existing projects over initiating new ones, as it would be more advantageous for the state.
However, Echono pointed out that TETFund must differentiate its projects from those initiated solely by the state before taking over any abandoned projects.
He stressed the need to tackle the immediate challenges in the state's education sector, underscoring TETFund's critical role.
"I'm here to thank TETFund and request additional support, given the states' fiscal conditions," he concluded.
