| Sultan of Sokoto Urges Nigerian Army to Reject Tribalism |
Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, has urged the Nigerian Army to avoid tribalism, cautioning that it has the potential to disrupt both the military and the nation.
This appeal was made by the Sultan in Bauchi on Wednesday at the inauguration of the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps' new headquarters complex and during the reunion and retirement parade for senior armoured officers.
Abubakar stated, "Currently serving in the military, many concerns revolve around one's origins, faith, and ethnicity. These were not considerations in the past. It is crucial not to let this infiltrate the army as it could be the factor that divides both the institution and the country."
He also advised the public against disparaging military personnel who are actively involved in operations to re-establish peace nationwide. He stressed, "It is essential for Nigerians to support and offer prayers for the military, as our security is fundamental to our ability to sleep, work, or visit places of worship without fear."
Representing Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Deputy Governor Auwal Mohammed Jatau pledged the state's commitment to assist the Nigerian Army and other security forces in maintaining peace and safeguarding the well-being and property of the populace.
