Strike: Kano workers disrupt government operations

The ongoing strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has brought government activities in Kano State to a standstill.

Our correspondent, who closely monitored the strike, noted that all government ministries, parastatals, and schools, including the state Polytechnic, have been closed, remaining inaccessible since early morning.

The Audu Bako Secretariat, which houses most of the ministries, was also shut down.

However, major markets such as Sabon Gari, Kantin Kwarai, and Singer markets remained open for business, with buyers and sellers conducting their usual transactions.

Filling stations were similarly operational.

Meanwhile, the NLC leadership established two committees to oversee compliance with the strike in the state, specifically monitoring ministries and parastatals.

A cross-section of civil servants expressed support for the NLC's strike action, emphasizing the need for a living wage.

They highlighted the challenges faced by workers due to the naira's depreciation, asserting that current salaries are insufficient.
