Sallah: Amid Emirship Crisis, Ado Bayero Calls District Heads to Durbar

The 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, recently removed from his position by the state government, has extended an invitation to district heads for the durbar, a traditional ceremony commemorating Sallah.

This invitation was detailed in a notice signed by a senior councilor of the emirate, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, Galadiman Kano, on Tuesday.

Dated June 10, 2024, the notice instructs all district heads within the emirate to attend with their village head, horsemen, and praise singers.

The notice states, “We instruct all district heads of the emirate to arrive with their village head, their horsemen, and praise singer for the celebration.

Furthermore, all district heads are to gather at Aminu Ado Bayero’s residence at Gidan Nassarawa on Saturday, Zhulhijjah 9, 1445, corresponding to June 15 at 11 am, to receive additional instructions promptly and without defiance.

“Following the day’s court session, the emir plans to convene with all district heads in the palace hall at Gidan Nassarawa to discuss the proceedings of this year’s durbar festivities.”

The notice also mentions that local government chairpersons have been notified to ensure the district heads' smooth journey into Kano metropolis.

Nonetheless, 7 of the 8 district heads in the Kano emirate have openly declared loyalty to Emir Sanusi.

Moreover, the local government chairpersons, indicated in the notice as being informed, are part of the NNPP administration that deposed him, and all chairpersons have expressed loyalty to his successor, Sanusi II.

It remains uncertain whether the district heads will heed Ado Bayero’s summons or align with Emir Sanusi and the Kano state administration.
