REVEALED: Soldiers' Identities Who Were Killed By IPOB Insurgents |
The identities of the soldiers tragically killed by the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) members have been disclosed.
Previously, our reporters detailed how IPOB insurgents set vehicles and tricycles (commonly referred to as Keke Napep) on fire during their rampage on Thursday.
The military leadership confirmed early on Friday that at least 5 soldiers stationed at the Obikabia Junction Checkpoint in the Obingwa Local Government Area, adjacent to the Aba metropolis in Abia State, were slain.
A report observed by Daily Trust on Friday revealed the deceased included two Sergeants, two Corporals, and one Lance Corporal, while the military reported that 6 civilians were also casualties of the crossfire.
The report stated, “On 30 May 24, around 0830 hrs, members of the 144 Battalion at Obikabia Junction Federal School Road, Ogbor Hill in Obingwa LGA came under attack by unidentified assailants believed to be IPOB/ESN operatives.
“About 30 insurgents enforcing a Sit-At-Home order, driving 3 black Toyota Land Cruiser Jeeps, ambushed the soldiers' position and initiated gunfire, resulting in the death of 5 soldiers.”
Additionally, it was revealed that the attackers made off with 5 AK47 rifles, destroyed 2 military patrol Hilux vehicles, and wounded 2 civilians.
The report mentioned that the current atmosphere in Aba is quite tense, with ongoing surveillance, and that more information will be provided as the situation develops.
