Ondo Gubernatorial Election: INEC Chairman Anticipates High Voter Turnout

Professor Mahmood Yakubu

In anticipation of the governorship election in Ondo State on November 16, 2024, the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, expressed optimism about a significant voter turnout at the polls.

Professor Yakubu, who made this statement in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, highlighted the impressive ongoing continuous voter registration (CVR) process. Over the past few days, the state has recorded a substantial number of registrants.

He explained, "I am currently in Ondo State for two primary reasons. Firstly, to observe the ongoing continuous voter registration, which began on Monday, the 27th of last month. Secondly, to assess our preparedness for the Ondo State governorship election."

The election is scheduled for November 16, approximately five months, two weeks, and two days from now. The registration figures indicate a remarkable voter turnout since the exercise commenced. As of yesterday, there were approximately 20,000 fresh registrants in Ondo, and the process is still ongoing.

It's important to note that these new registrants exclude transfers, card collections, and replacements. Given the enthusiasm demonstrated, particularly by young men, it appears that there will be no voter apathy in the upcoming elections.
