| NNPC Identifies Additional 165 Unauthorized Refineries in a Week |
In the ongoing battle against oil theft and vandalism, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited announced the detection of an extra 165 unauthorized refineries across the Niger Delta region.
This information was shared during the company's latest weekly segment called 'Energy and You'.
NNPCL stated that from June 15 to 21, approximately 400 instances of oil theft and vandalism were recorded by state and private security organizations.
The corporation uncovered and severed 69 illicit connections in the states of Bayelsa and Rivers.
The company also reported at least eight oil spill incidents due to vandalism or unauthorized connections throughout the area.
Additionally, an unlawful loading site was found in Warri, Delta State.
In Okrika, Rivers State, within various swamps, the NNPC reported the discovery and dismantling of 69 illegal refineries.
Refining operations were also found in various sites within Abia and Bayelsa States.
The NNPC disclosed the discovery of 19 illegal storage locations harboring stolen crude oil and illicitly refined products in Delta, Imo, Rivers, Abia, and Bayelsa States.
Furthermore, the company seized 11 vehicles in Delta, Akwa-Ibom, and Bayelsa States and impounded 39 vessels transporting stolen crude in Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa States.
During the specified timeframe, the company emphasized that eight individuals were apprehended in relation to these offenses.
It is noteworthy that the NNPCL Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, recently mentioned, "Over the past two years, we have eliminated more than 5,800 illegal connections from our pipelines."
